The LiSoG project team for the Open Source based Desktop Benchmark is happy to announce the release of the specification "Open Source based Desktop Benchmark (OSDtBench)". The specification is the result of 18 months of work. The PDF is available under the Creative Commons (CC-BY-SA) license for download.

Dr. Jutta Kreyss will give a talk at LinuxTag 2009 on June 25th at 17:00 CEST in Saal 2 at the "Business- & Behördenkongress" in Berlin.

The announced prototype runs through the last steps of the quality assurance and is not available yet. The download link will follow the next days. Interessted persons may contact Nico Gulden. He will contact them as soon as the prototype is available.

A great thanks for the work donw goes to the LiSoG project team, the authors and reviewers of the specification.

Users can test routine work flows in the office environment - for example document creation or graphic editing. Product neutral tender procedures have been an expensive matter up to now. Municipalities have to explain their requirements for systems in detail in an extensive process without preferring a certain vendor. Users utilize benchmark programs to accelerate the process. The necessary software tests the necessary requirements of office applications and is rather cost intense. Current benchmarks do not consider the Linux operating system or Open Source software. Open Source software is handicapped in product neutral tender procedures.
