Benchmark-Project releases application list
The LiSoG>>Project: Open Source based Desktop Benchmark has released its application list. The applications are part of the workflows that will be validated by the benchmark. Dr. Jutta Kreyss gave a lecture on the project at the LinuxTag 2008 in Berlin.

- PDF-Viewer: Acrobat Reader
- Media Player: Video LAN Client (VLC)
- Encryption: GnuPG
- CD ISO-Images: mkisofs as part of the cdrtools
- Screenshots: Key "Print" on the keyboard
- Webbrowser: Firefox
- Desktop Search: Nutch as Frontend for Apache Lucene
- Project Management: GanttProject
Criteria for choosing the applications
Applications complying the following criteria will be preferred:

The application provides a command line interface

The application communicates with equivalent MS products

The application is barrier-free

The application offers ease of use for the end user
